Workshop on ELNs and more

On November 11, DAPHNE4NFDI gave their first Vision Workshop in Göttingen, exploring the future of research data management by discussing the electronic lab notebooks (ELNs) SNIP and LabIMotion as well as the metadata catalog SciCat. You can read more about the workshop on their website (here, you need to scroll down a little bit).

Stammtisch Recording: LADS – Laboratory & Analytical Device Standard

The recording of the NFDI4Chem Stammtisch from April (2024) was uploaded to YouTube. This time the topic of the talk was a “common language” for lab and analytical devices, the so-called LADS – Laboratory & Analytical Device Standard. Very interesting talk and specially important if you want to improve your lab documentation and interaction with your devices. If you are a bit in the hurry, at least check out the use cases and the following slides:

NFDI4Earth

NFDI4Earth is the Consortium Earth System Sciences of the NFDI, the National Research Data Infrastructure in Germany.

3rd cohort of pilots announced

In the past, I reported that NFDI4Earth had a call for pilot projects in the earth system science. Now they announced the five projects that are part of the 3rd cohort. The names of the projects are: CAMELS-DE Plus, GeoLabel, The seamless interoperability of geospatial freshwater tools (GeoFresh3), 4D-WORKS and An adaptive quality evaluation tool for geochemical data. Read more about the projects here. The pilot project usually run one year and the first will start in January 2025. On the website, you can also find information about the 2nd cohort, which ran between April 2022 and September 2023.

The FAIR Elephant

Since the beginning of 2024 I have been a trainer-in-training with the DRA, the Digital Research Academy, which is a network of trainers with the aim of making digital skills in research more accessible. In this context, I will give a free online workshop on December 12, with the title: The RDM Rope: Step-by-Step to a Research Data Management Strategy Tailored to Your Needs. You are very welcome to join the workshop and learn how to make the most of the different tools and principles that RDM offers. For more information and registration, follow the link:

https://events.digital-research.academy/event/51/

You can also check my blog post from October 25, to learn more about the idea of describing RDM as a rope. I am looking forward to meeting you all on December 12.

That’s it for today. Thanks for reading, and see you next week.
