Welcome to the News Digest – RDM in Natural Science. Each week, I explore the latest developments in research data management, focusing specifically on natural sciences, and provide a concise overview. Let us dive right in.

FAIRmat

Metadata standardisation: NeXus in FAIRmat

Over the past years FAIRmat was actively involved in the development of new NeXus metadata schema (extending the schema to new methods) and has integrated NeXus in the FAIRmat infrastructure NOMAD. In the presentation by Lukas Pielsticker provides on overview of the integration of NeXus in FAIRmat. Specially interesting if you are working in the field of metadata standardisation, since NeXus is a great example of community accepted standards.

Introduction to NOMAD

If you already follow this News Digest for a while, you are probably aware what FAIRmat and NOMAD are, but in case this is your first time, or haven't had the chance to check these out more in details, then now is your chance. Ahmed E. Mansour published a presentation that introduces both and provides a good general overview.

NFID4Chem & PubPharm

Interlinking of services: NFDI4Chem Search Service indexed on PubPharm

A service that helps researchers to find publications they are looking for is great (PubPharm). But do you know what's even better? When this services now uses another services (NFDI4Chem Search Service) to also provide information on published datasets. This is what the Specialist Information Service for Pharmacy (FID Pharmazie) and NFDI4Chem have done now. It is a fantastic example of connecting existing services for the benefits of the researchers. You can read more about it in an article published by Theo Bender on the NFDI4Chem webpage.

Improved search in Chemotion Repository

With the release of the Chemotion Repository version 3.0.0 the faceted search was introduced into the repository. This allows user to filter the search results by author, publication year, licence and more and improves the usability of the repository. So check out the repository yourself or read about more changed in the changelog.

eLabFTW

Templates in eLabFTW

If you are involved, in any way, with eLabFTW, as a user, team- or sysadmin, you definitely should check out the recording of the last eLabFTW Community Meeting. The main topic of the meeting was working with templates in eLabFTW. It starts with a brief introduction by Nicolas Carpi on general information about templates in eLaFTW and is followed by a presentation of Neele Drobnitzky on the fantastic templates she created for the SFB 1638. It will show you what is possible when you use templates in eLabFTW to the full advantage. Moving from a digital documentation to a truly structured and standardised documentation. Check it out.
