Welcome to the News Digest – RDM in Natural Science. Each week, I explore the latest developments in research data management, focusing specifically on natural sciences, and provide a concise overview. Let us dive right in.

edit: Originally here was a link to a satirical post by Deltablot about AI agents. There was no security incident at Deltablot/eLabFTW. The original article was removed, so I removed it from the News Digest here.

FAIRmat

Paper on Python framework for NeXus files

FAIRmat is heavily involved in adopting the NeXus standard and developing it further. With pynxtools they published a Python tool to generate and validate NeXus files. Check out the paper by Sherjeel Shabih et al. and read more about it on the news webpage of FAIRmat.

NFDI4Cat & FAIR4ChemNL

The FAIR RDM for Chemistry Workshop, organised by NFDI4Cat and FAIR4ChemNL, took place and multiple resource from the workshop are now available in the Repo4Cat.

NFDI4Cat 2.0

Interested in learning more about the future of NFDI4Cat? Then check out the presentation by Sara Espinoza. You will learn more about the future of data spaces, the structure of NFDI4Cat and how all of this contribute the vision of One NFDI.

FAIR4ChemNL: Progress and Challenges

Occasionally, I reported on some news from FAIR4ChemNL but for most of you readers, the project is probably not as well known. Therefore, I strongly recommend to check out the presentation by Evgeny Pidko, which provides insights on FAIR4ChemNL.

Connecting Catalysis Data Spaces

In this poster Jiangtao Shuai et al. report about challenges to connect catalytical data across different resources and introduce Cochpit4Cat as a single point of entry.

Sustainable Chemistry Data Standards

This presentation by Oliver Koepler and Theo Bender show the work NFDI4Chem has done on data standards, how standards are used to harmonise information on over multiple resources, provides an update on the development of Minimum Information for Chemical Investigations (MIChI), as well as provide insights on the outreach activities of NFDI4Chem.

Data-driven workflows in catalysis

In this presentation Evgeny Uslamin shows what it takes to document the full workflow for data in a lab, from instrument to dataset. It provides good insights, shows the challenges, but also solutions to actually build data-driven workflows in catalysis.

CoreMeta4Cat

CoreMeta4Cat is an initiative that defines minimum information which is required for reporting research data in catalysis. Check out the presentation by Mohammad Khatamirad et al. to learn more.

Outreach and Education of FAIR4ChemNL

If you are in contact with chemistry or provide trainings on the topic of RDM for chemistry, then you should definitely check out the poster by Marvin Martens and Egon Willighagen. In it the workshop of the work package FAIR Data Community, Education and Outreach of FAIR4ChemNL is shown, with links to resources and more. I want directly link two things the "Find a repository" service and the "InChi learning path".

RADAR4Chem: New features and updates metadata schema

A new version of RADAR4Chem, a repository for chemistry data, is now live. The metadata schema was updated, allowing to add information about version (which will lead in the future to a version function) and new features. Read more in the article published by Kerstin Soltau.

NFDI4Earth

Report on third round pilot projects

In the report Kolja Nenoff and Sarah Habershon provide information about the six projects that were part of the third cohort of pilot projects within NFDI4Eart. The six projects went well beyond the proof-of-concept phase. If you are in any way involved in working with data from the Earth System Sciences (e.g. geospatial data) you should definetly have a look.
