Hi, I’m Dr. Benjamin Golub-Overbeck
I founded The FAIR Elephant in 2024 because I’m passionate about research—and about helping others get the most out of theirs. Whether you’re working in industry or academia, your most valuable asset is your data. But are you taking the best care of it? Are you tapping into its full potential?
With The FAIR Elephant, I offer training and consulting in research data management, tailored specifically to the natural sciences and life sciences.
I studied chemistry at the University of Rostock and completed my PhD in theoretical and physical chemistry. Since 2021, I’ve been involved in various projects in the field of research data management. For instance, in 2022 and 2023, I was part of the trainer team at NFDI4Chem. Today, alongside running The FAIR Elephant, I also work at TU Braunschweig as part of the State Initiative for Research Data Management in Lower Saxony (FDM-NDS).

Where does the name come from?
It all came together pretty naturally.
“FAIR” stands for the FAIR Principles—Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable—which are the backbone of modern research data management. They’re at the heart of everything I do with The FAIR Elephant.
“Elephant” is a little nod to my childhood. If your name is Benjamin and you grew up in Germany, it’s almost impossible not to be associated with Benjamin Blümchen, the kind, helpful cartoon elephant. I decided to embrace it.
And “The”? Honestly, it just sounded right. A small word that gives the whole name a bit of rhythm and character.
