Love Data Week 2024 – Electronic Lab Notebook

Next week, from February 12 to February 16, the international Love Data Week will take place. During this week, there will be many different workshops, seminars and presentations around the topic of research data management, FAIR data and Open Data. You can find a list of the events in Germany at forschungsdaten.info. Since this list can be quite overwhelming due to the amount of different events, I want to provide you with an overview of the things that could be interesting for the field of natural science. Each day this week, I will focus on a different aspect of research data management. I am sure that more events will be listed during this week, so please check the program again. Should I have missed something, feel free to add it in the comments.

Today, I want to focus on events regarding electronic lab notebooks (ELNs). In natural science, ELNs can be very helpful tools to support you with FAIR data documentation in the lab. As far as I saw, three different ELNs will be presented during the Love Data Week. The more generic ELN eLabFTW (on Tuesday and Thursday), and the discipline-specific ELNs Chemotion ELN (Wednesday and Thursday) and NOMAD Oasis (Wednesday). In addition to the talks and workshops about the specific ELNs, there will be a talk about using an ELN from a user’s perspective as well as the perspective of a group leader (only in German). In these two talks, I am actually involved as an organizer. On Wednesday and Thursday you can also find some more general talks about ELNs which can provide a great introduction to the topic. Please be aware, that some of these talks are in German and that for some of the workshops you need to register beforehand. I collected all events in the following overview, to get more information, please visit forschungsdaten.info.

Should you struggle with finding the right electronic lab notebook for your work or be unsure on how to actually start working and establishing one, feel free to contact me. Together, we can find the right solution for you and your lab. Should you be interested in learning more about this service, check Rent-A-RDM-Expert. In case you are interested in the discipline-specific ELN Chemotion ELN you can also check the first case of The Chemotion Files, an escape-room-like game to get to know the ELN better.

Tomorrow, I will provide you with an overview of events that deal with the general concept of better research data management. Which can be a great introduction to the topic. So stay tuned, and see you tomorrow.
