White Paper: Finding the Right ELN for Your Research
One of my favourite topics is electronic lab notebooks (ELNs), so I am very happy I can link a new publication from DAPHNE4NFDI on the topic of finding the right ELN for your research:
https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/08940886.2024.2432265
It is the most physics-way I have seen to evaluate and identify the right ELN for the job, and I mean this in the most positive way. Highly recommended checking out this white paper.
Zenodo Uploads
Two presentations were added to the Zenodo community of FAIRmat. The first one is a more general introduction to NOMAD and NOMAD Oasis and how to use the metadata schema to make it work for your research. The second one is more specific on photoemission spectroscopy and X-ray photoemission spectroscopy and how to work with this kind of data in NOMAD.
Furthermore, a new version of the Atomistic Parsers was published. It is a plugin for NOMAD that adds parsers for multiple simulation codes. With this version, MDAnaysis was updated to a newer version so that the software Gromacs 2024 is support, read the full changelog here:

Report: Metadata Workshop in Dresden
NFDI4Earth hosted the NFDI Task Force Metadata meeting in Dresden, where NFDI wide standards for metadata documentation and how to coordinate the efforts of the different NFDI consortia that are actively involved in the development of metadata standards were discussed. You can find the short report here:

Videos for Training Courses
Five new videos were uploaded to the YouTube-channel of NFDI4Earth. They are all training videos and belong to different courses that NFDI4Earth offers, dealing with the topic of working with geospatial data. You can check out the playlist provide by NFDI4Earth here:

As mentioned, these video are included in different training courses the NFDI4Earth provides, you can find more information about the courses here: https://edutrain.nfdi4earth.de/courses
Recording – PSDI Pathfinder: Data to Knowledge (to Data)
A recording from December 2023 is now available at the YouTube-Channel of PDSI, dealing with the topic of working with data in a machine learning context and how to set up workflows to ensure reproducible and reusable data.
Partnering with NFDI4Chem: Contributing to Research Data Training
I am delighted to let you know that I will support NFDI4Chem at their next three in-person “FAIR Research Data Management: Basics for Chemists” workshops in the first half of 2025. If you would like to know more about the workshop by the NFDI4Chem, feel free to check their website:
https://www.nfdi4chem.de/a-workshop-for-institutions-fair-research-data-management-basics-for-chemists/
In 2022 and 2023 I was part of the trainer team of this particular workshop, and I am very happy to be able to be part of the workshop again. At least for a few dates. Looking very much forward to the workshops and the cooperation with NFDI4Chem.
I can promise you that there are more events coming and I will let you know during the next few weeks.
That was it for today. Thanks for reading and see you next week!
