News Digest – RDM in Natural Science: Week 14 & 15, 2026

Due to the Easter break, there was no News Digest last week, but no worries, today you get all the information from the last two weeks, so buckle up and let us dive right in:
DAPHNE4NFDI
Integration of BASE4NFDI services in DAPHNE4NFDI
BASE4NFDI is a consortium of the NFDI that offers basic services which are useful for all people working in research, independent on the scientific field or method. At the DAPHNE Annual Meeting, Martin Reinhardt presented the services of BASE4NFDI and how they integrate into DAPHNE. Have a look if you need an update on recent developments with BASE4NFDI and how the services are actually used.

DOI for DESY Photo Science data
At DESY a new service, a DOI minting service, was started. Check out the presentation by Regina Kwee-Hinzmann et al. to learn more and see how it integrates with SciCat the metadata catalogue used at DESY.

You have never heard of SciCat or the metadata management employed at DESY? Then you should check out the following to presentations by Regina Kwee-Hinzmann and Johannes Reppin discussing the past and future of data management at DESY.

RefXAS: A X-Ray absorption spectra database
Looking for a database for X-Ray absorption spectra? Then have a look at the poster by Abhijeet Gaur et al., discussing the aims and objects as well as the data flow in this curated database.

DAPHNE4NFDI at the DPG Spring Meeting of the Condensed Matter Section
Together with FAIRmat DAPHNE4NFDI was at the Spring Meeting of the DPG section on condensed matter. Read more about their activities in a short report at the DAPHNE4NFDI webpage.

eLabFTW
Release video for versions v5.4 and v5.5
The version v5.4 and v5.5 of eLabFTW are out with new features and some changes, e.g. the dark mode is there, changes to templates ensure that a level of standardisation is kept and there are many more small (and bigger) changes. As always, if you are working with eLabFTW watching the release videos should be a high priority and I recommend this one too.
FAIRmat
Read about the NOMAD Catalysis App in Nature Catalysis
The NOMAD Catalysis App is a catalysis-optimized interface for the NOMAD platform. It was released last year and I mentioned it in the News Digest Week 23, 2025. Now an article was published in Nature Catalysis, so check it out and spread the word with all your catalysis researchers.

LinkML
The recording of the monthly LinkML Community Meeting is there. This time with Damien Goutte-Gattat shown the LinkML runtime library for Java (starts at 2:36 min) and Chris Mungall providing information about the LinkML Term Validator (starts at 30:30 min).
NFDI4Chem
Workshop report: Guidelines for LLMs in academic publishing
LLMs get increasingly used in academic publishing, therefore guidelines for the use of LLMs in this area are needed, e.g. for the reviewing in process. A recent workshop by NFDI-MatWerk, KonsortSWD – NFDI4Society, NFDI4DS, Text+, NFDI4Earth and NFDI4Chem had a closer look at the topic. Read more about the meeting, the results and if you want to stay up-to-date you can add your name to the LLM-publshing series mailing list.

NFDI4Earth
High-Value data for the Earth System Sciences
Three presentations from the workshop “From data to insights: How to unlock the power of High-Value Data with the right tools” were uploaded to the Zenodo community of NFDI4Earth. The first presentation is by Felix Cremer and shows the user perspective on how to work with High-Value Data (slides mostly in German).
Link to the presentation in Zenodo with DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.19336907
The second presentation by Christin Henzen and Tom Niers is more focusing on how to find these kinds of datasets and how the OneStop4All community portal helps researcher to find what they are looking for. If you are not aware what OneStop4All is, I recommend having a look, even if you are not active in the field of Earth System Sciences. The portal provides a nice and easy access to datasets, services and much more.

The third presentation by Astrid Ziemann and Alois Wieshuber discusses what High-Value data actually are, and which benefits they provide. Out of the three presentations, this is probably the most concise on the topic. There are definitely some useful information for your next workshop in the Earth System Sciences community.

PSDI
Accessibility in data management
How much do you think about the accessibility of the services that are provided by the different players in research data management? Cerys Willoughby published a recording of a presentation, as well as the slides to the presentation, on Zenodo. Showing how PSDI is taking on the challenge for their services and shows how metadata-driven approaches can help to improve accessibility of chemical information. Very interesting and short talk (15 min) which I recommend to all the RDM professionals out there.

PUNCH4NFDI
Access High-Energy Physics data from the LHC experiments at CERN with EXPLORE
A must-know if you are working in the field of high-energy physics or know researchers in the field. EXPLORE is a research data infrastructure deployed at the University of Göttingen which allows the users to access as well as analyse high-energy physics data from the LHC experiment at CERN. It improves what the ATLAS Open Data Analysis Service already provided by removing the need for a CERN account and providing ready-to-use environments. Check out the presentation by Baida Achkar et al. to learn more about the ideas, setup and how to use it.

DPG Spring Meeting: The reproducibility challenge
PUNCH4NFDI joint the DPG Spring Meeting if you are keen to know more about their activities and how they used a “reproducibility challenge” to engage with their researchers (and no, it has nothing to do with Lego ;)), then check out the report.
