First of all, congratulations to all Nobel Prize awardees! One topic that was quite dominant in the Nobel Prizes plays also a role in this week’s News Digest. Can you guess which one it is? Yes? So let’s check it out.

FAIRmat

FAIRmat is the FAIR Data Infrastructure for Condensed-Matter Physics and the Chemical Physics of Solids, a consortium of the NFDI, the National Research Data Infrastructure in Germany.

Zenodo

The latest version of NOMAD CAMELS and the nomad-simulations plugin were published on Zenodo.

NFDI4Cat

NFDI4Cat is the consortium for sciences related to catalysis of the NFDI, the National Research Data Infrastructure in Germany.

Zenodo

A detailed guide with screenshots on how to contribute to the Voc4Cat, a catalysis-specific vocabulary, was uploaded to Zenodo.

NFDI4Chem

NFDI4Chem is the Chemistry consortium for the NFDI, the National Research Data Infrastructure in Germany.

AI in Chemistry

As the recent Nobel Prize announcements have shown, AI is getting more and more relevant. So it is no wonder, that this is also true in chemistry. In one of the latest reports, NFDI4Chem is taking a closer look at this topic (check out the article here). One important point they are making, is that all the development in AI is and was only possible due to freely available data, pointing to the importance of FAIR and Open data for this development.

Practical RDM in university education

A lot of people agree that teaching the basics of research data management should already be done for bachelor and master’s students. In this report, NFDI4Chem shows five examples of how RDM was integrated into practical courses (see here). They also provide a short checklist, in case you want to integrate RDM or ELNs into your teachings.

PSDI

PSDI is the Physical Sciences Data Infrastructure in the UK.

Ethical Challenges of AI and Generative AI in research

In the latest issue of the Lab Horizon magazine, Dr. Samantha Pearman-Kanza from PSDI is discussing the ethical challenges that comes with the use of AI (see here).

Our best future is when human and machine can work together, not when machines eclipse humanity.

Outro

In times when I really need to get work done, I like to stream co-working sessions, it just helps me to focus. Last time I did this, I had to write my PhD thesis, and what can I say: it worked! So today from 10 am to (probably) 1 pm I will start again with a co-working stream on my YouTube-channel (here). If you need to finish something, feel free to join me, we are listening to the fantastic Scott Buckley. I use the pomodoro technique, so 25 min work followed by a 5-min break. I plan to do these on a more regular basis, but we will see.

So, that is it for today. Thank you for reading, and see you next week!
