Can you believe it? This is already the second-to-last blog News Digest of the year 2024 (yes, there will be no News Digest in Week 52). Time is flying by so fast, but let us jump in directly and see what happened since last week.
FAIRmat
FAIRmat is the FAIR Data Infrastructure for Condensed-Matter Physics and the Chemical Physics of Solids, a consortium of the NFDI, the National Research Data Infrastructure in Germany.
Zenodo
Slides of a comprehensive overview of NOMAD, including NOMAD OASIS, NOMAD CAMELS and NOMAD PLUGIN were uploaded to Zenodo. The slides belong to a talk given in a PSDI Webinar on December 5th. Besides these slides, there are new updates for NOMAD Schema Plugin and Pynxtools.

NFDI4Cat
NFDI4Cat is the consortium for sciences related to catalysis of the NFDI, the National Research Data Infrastructure in Germany.
Digital Chemist Award 2024
Congratulations to Dr. David Linke from the Leibniz Institute for Catalysis Rostock (LIKAT), for receiving this year’s Digital Chemist Award by NFDI4Cat. For more information about the work of Dr. David Linke on digitalizing research data from catalysis, check out the LIKAT press release: https://www.catalysis.de/fileadmin/user_upload/MAIN-dateien/2024_12_Digital_Chemist_Award_DLinke_en.pdf

NFDI4Chem
NFDI4Chem is the Chemistry consortium for the NFDI, the National Research Data Infrastructure in Germany.
Stammtisch recording: A Glimpse of LARA and SciDat
Another NFDI4Chem Stammtisch recording was uploaded to YouTube. This time it is the talk by Dr. Mark Dörr from April 2024, about open semantic web technologies, open data formats, automation and how this will help chemists in their lab work. Usually, I try to highlight specific parts of these and other recordings, but this time I actually recommend checking out the full video. It is a great project and I definitely need to check and see what developments happened since April:
PUNCH4NFDI
PUNCH4NFDI is the Particles, Universe, NuClei and Hadrons for the NFDI consortium of the NFDI, the National Research Data Infrastructure in Germany.
Helpdesk
You have questions about different services, trainings and activities of PUNCH4NFDI, but are unsure who you can ask? No problem, PUNCH4NFDI established a central helpdesk. You can read more about the new service on the website of the consortium: https://www.punch4nfdi.de/news_amp_events/news/archiv/punch4nfdi_helpdesk/.
The FAIR Elephant
Yesterday, December 12th, I gave a workshop for the Digital Research Academy (DRA, https://digital-research.academy/), where I am in the process of becoming a trainer for them, about research data management. It was the second time I presented the idea of think of RDM strategies as some a rope. It was really great to see the participants engage with the idea, and I think the picture is actually working quite well when communicating how a RDM strategy can be developed. If you want to know more about "RDM Strategies as a rope" check out my blog post: https://thefairelephant.com/2024/10/25/rdm-strategy-as-a-rope/
That is it for today. Thank you very much for reading and see you next week!
